Frequently Asked Questions

Shipping, Export & Import

We realise finding the right car is only the first half of the journey. The second half is the shipping. The Pangaea philosophy is that there are no boundaries. What use would it be selling you the vehicle, if we couldn’t get it to you.

With that in mind we've been shipping collectible vehicles around the world for over eight years. In fact, there's only a few continents we haven’t shipped to. I bet you can guess one…

Our wealth of knowledge on international vehicle shipping means we are uniquely placed to provide formative information from, most appropriate shipping methods through to market specific import regulations.

Below are some of the most popular questions that we’ve been asked over the years, but if there is something else you wish to ask, then please get in touch.

  • For US bound vehicles we would advise utilising Roll-on Roll-off (RoRo) vehicle shipping. This is the method adopted by car manufacturers including Jaguar Land Rover, Bentley and Rolls-Royce to transport their vehicles to North America.

The indicative cost to ship a vehicle using RoRo can range from $1,350.00 USD to $3,850.00 USD depending on destination, carrier and required provisions such inland transport, export and import arrangements.

    Below is an example shipment:

Vehicle: Land Rover Defender 90 300 TDI 1997

Inland port delivery from Canterbury, Kent to Southampton, England (146 miles) by open transporter. $445.00

Ocean freight by RoRo from Southampton to Baltimore Including preparing export documentation. $1,685.00

Local charges U.S. Terminal handling charges, customs entry, EPA & DOT Filing and ISF Filing. $822.90

    Total: $2,952.90 USD

Eligible to clients who purchase a vehicle with shipping options. A 4% fee is payable for this service, based on the total combined vehicle, options and shipping transaction value. If you're looking to import a vehicle elsewhere, please get in touch and we can introduce you to a local import agent in your region.

  • Each one of the US’s 48 States has different procedures regarding the titling and registration of an overseas imported vehicle.

One thing they all have in common is every state’s DMV will require evidence that the vehicle was imported and that an entry was filed with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

Your stamped CBP 7501 Entry Summary is your proof that you filed your entry with CBP, so be sure to keep a copy to present to the DMV when registering your vehicle.

Your DMV will typically need the following:

    1. Bill of Sale / Purchase Contract

    2. Photo ID

    3. Photo of the VIN/serial number

    4. US Import documents to include, DOT, EPA Declaration & Stamped CBP 7501 Entry Summary

It's worth noting that a lot of DMVs have their Out of State and Imported Vehicles department handle overseas import vehicle titling. So if you're having trouble getting information from your DMV, it's worth asking to speak with someone in this department.
